The border between fine art and moving images is where I feel most comfortable.
Do not cut off the film strip!
In my experimental film project that I developed during the workshop, I explore the conflict between destructed (like hand scratch) animated films on film stock and film restoration software. The restoration software cannot tell apart the creator’s intentional image-distorting gestures from the natural degradation process of the film’s raw material, so it automatically detects and corrects them as errors. Through this work, I examine how unconscious mechanisms 'reinterpret' and transform visual errors that were originally an integral part of the artwork.
During the workshop, I made material experiments. I exposed the film to mechanical wear and chemical etching.
