BIO

Cindy Chehab is a Lebanese filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist based in Cyprus whose creative journey unfolds at the intersection of visual art, poetry, and research-based storytelling. She pursued her BA in film and television studies at the Lebanese University IBA2. Cindy released her first documentary, “Seated Roots,” in November 2021, winning the jury prize at the Arab Short Film Festival In December 2021. She is particularly drawn to the transformative power of audio-visual artwork that delves into the personal and political realms. As a Lebanese artist who grew up in an Arab setting and later moved to the island of Cyprus, her journey has been shaped by post-colonial theories that have, in turn, influenced my artistic exploration of identity and Orientalism through audiovisual research-based practice. Her identity is deeply rooted in the Mediterranean, and as the world becomes increasingly political, She find a renewed certainty in her artistic direction. The complexities of her identity, the rich tapestry of the Mediterranean region, and a nuanced interest in Europeanization serve as constant sources of inspiration, driving her commitment to uncovering untold narratives and contributing to the discourse on marginal frontiers.
